Dallas--The Texas Jewelers Association (TJA) announced the winners of the jewelry design contest it held during the recent Smart Jewelry Show in Dallas.

Open to members of the TJA and students from Texas, the competition had a total of five categories.

Categories 1 through 3 covered pieces made in silver, gold or platinum, with or without stones. Material costs for category 1 could not exceed $1,000 while the range for category 2 was $1,000 to $3,000 and category 3 was $3,000 and up.

Category 4 was open to bench jewelers only and stipulated that the designer be the only one to touch the piece from conception to final polish. Materials of any value could be used.

No rules applied to the fifth category, which was for students.

Entries were judged on creative use of materials, craftsmanship, wearability, originality and fashion merit.

The first place winners are showcased in the gallery.

Also during the Smart show, the TJA held their board meeting and elected Ann Glynn as executive director.
