From Basel: 10 new pieces of jewelry
While Baselworld is known as a showcase for the latest watchmaking innovations, there was no lack of fresh jewelry designs at the show. A total of 10 pieces from three big brands--Stephen Webster, Mikimoto and Roberto Coin--are featured in this slideshow.
Basel--British designer Stephen Webster, Italian jeweler Roberto Coin and Japanese pearl giant Mikimoto all debuted new collections in Basel.
Webster drew inspiration from his native Britain in designing pieces for 2014/2015. His Magnipheasant collection uses colored gemstones to depict the feathers of the pheasant, a bird common to the English countryside, while the Lady Stardust line is a nod to British rock icon David Bowie and his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust.
Introductions from Mikimoto, meanwhile, included a new collection of baroque pearls--with the brand noting that its customers are warming up to the irregularly shaped gems as their desire for one-of-kind pieces grows--and the Embrace collection, which offers a twist on the traditional pearl stud earrings.
From Roberto Coin came an expansion of the extremely popular Pois Moi collection introduced last year, including more pieces using black jade. A number of horse motif pieces added to the Animalier line marks, of course, the Year of the Horse.
The Italian designer added larger and smaller versions of its Pois Moi bangles, plus diamond pave pieces. He also debuted three horse cuffs, in white (Arabian horse), black (Icelandic horse) and brown (American horse).
