Elisa Solomon Partners with Illustrator Dallas Shaw
The jewelry designer and fashion illustrator have designed a delicate opal ring stack together.
New York--Fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw is no stranger to collaborations. She’s partnered with everyone from Chanel to Christian Louboutin to Oscar de la Renta.
Now, Shaw is bringing her drawings to physical fruition via a partnership with jewelry designer Elisa Solomon, which was born out of a mutual admiration.
“Dallas and I are fans of each other’s work and thought it would be fun to come together for a special project,” said Solomon, who has been designing her namesake brand since 2004.
“I have loved Elisa’s work since I ran into it at ABC Carpet in NYC,” said Shaw.
Shaw and Solomon created two stacking rings, crafted in 14-karat yellow gold, featuring marquise-cut opals and white diamond melee.
“Elisa asked what I was into right now and when I said ‘opal,’ it was kismet,” Shaw explained. “I created some sketches and she brought them to life.”
The designs center on the opals, which are meant to represent an eye motif.
Solomon explained, “It was important to select a specific symbol that reflected both of us for the design. The eye is meaningful as it symbolizes vision, clarity, perception and openness. It also is believed to protect and ward off evil. We felt the eye is a symbol we both would love to wear and that others would as well.”
Solomon noted the ease of partnering with Shaw.
“We (both) love fashion and accessories that are unique, feminine and have a story or deeper meaning,” she said. “It was exciting melding some of our favorite things for this ring duo collaboration.”
“I trusted her artistry,” Shaw echoed.
Shaw, whose first book, an illustrated style guide, is forthcoming in 2017, has ventured into the world of fine jewelry once before. This year, she also collaborated on a project with Jennifer Dawes Design.
Shaw and Solomon’s rings, which retail for $1,290 and $620, are available now on ElisaSolomon.com.
