GIA CEO to lead panel at NY career fair

New York--Gemological Institute of America President and CEO Susan Jacques will moderate a panel on how to be successful in today’s market at the GIA’s upcoming career fair, scheduled for July 28 in New York.

The panel, “Job Success in Today’s Market,” will be moderated by Jacques and feature Mercedes Abramo, president and CEO of Cartier North America; Ashley Chan of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers; Andrea Hansen, partner at Luxe Intelligence and president of the Women’s Jewelry Association; Doug Hucker, CEO of the American Gem Trade Association; and Steven Lagos, founder and chief creative director of Lagos Jewelry.

The panelists will share the stories of their success and offer advice for those aspiring to have a career in the jewelry industry.

The GIA’s New York career fair is scheduled for Monday, July 28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center during the JA New York Summer show.

Fair hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with recruiting taking place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The career fair brings together aspiring jewelry professionals, including those in retail, design and manufacturing, with companies looking to hire and volunteer career coaches.

The fair is free and open to the public, though anyone interested in attending is urged to RSVP online.

The GIA held its first career fair in 1991 in Santa Monica, Calif. and has since expanded to include fairs in India, Las Vegas, New York and at its headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.

Following New York, the next GIA career fair is set for Oct. 10 in Carlsbad.
