JFC’s Rings of Strength event raises $40K

New York--Jewelers for Children held its inaugural Rings of Strength tour on May 30 during the Las Vegas jewelry shows and, through the work of participants, was able to raise more than $40,000.

More than 180 participants gathered at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino at 5:30 a.m. to either walk or run a 5K or bike one of two courses--a leisurely 15K route or a challenging 50K route.

“We are an industry of great heart and emotion. Seeing 170 people at 5:30 in the morning ready to run, walk and bike in support of others is awe-inspiring,” participant Stuart Marcus said.

Individuals took part in the tour, as well as teams, including those organized by Malca-Amit, Brinks, Blue Nile, Coast Diamond, Rio Tinto, JCK and CASA Volunteers, among others. Each person or team who signed up was able to build their own fundraising website for the tour.

“It was so gratifying to see people just keep coming and coming so early in the morning to participate and unite as an industry for such an important cause,” said Rebecca Foerster, JFC board member and creator of the event.

Sponsors for the event included TAG Heuer, JCK, Blue Nile, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, Malca-Amit, Brinks, Jewelry Creations, Rio Tinto, Harmon Group, Cedarwood Companies, Freeman Expo Service and CASA of Las Vegas.

JFC already plans to do the Rings of Strength event again next year. It is scheduled for May 29 beginning at Mandalay Bay.
