Knoxville, TN still nation’s most romantic city
Seattle--As Valentine’s Day approaches, Amazon.com again has released its list of the country’s most amorous cities, as ranked by sales of items such as romantic movies and books.
For the second year in a row, Knoxville, Tenn., home to the University of Tennessee, takes the title of the most romantic city in the country. The college town bumped Alexandria, Va., out of the top spot last year following that city’s two-year reign.
Amazon compiles its annual list of bliss using sales data related to romance novels and relationship books (purchased either in print or for the Kindle), romantic comedy movies, music from Dean Martin, Barry White, Luther Vandross and Maxwell and Miguel, and sexual wellness products. The data used was collected between Jan. 1 and 23 on a per capita basis in cities with more than 100,000 residents.
After Knoxville, Alexandria, Miami, Orlando and Cincinnati rounded out the top five.
Vancouver, Wash. came in at No. 6, followed by Dayton, Ohio; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Columbia, S.C.; and the Steel City, Pittsburgh.
The cities completing the rest of the top 20 were: Round Rock, Texas; Clearwater, Fla.; Las Vegas; Salem, Ore.; Erie, Pa.; Everett, Wash.; Rochester, N.Y.; Clarksville, Tenn.; Tallahassee, Fla.; and Billings, Mont.
Round Rock, Salem and Billings were new to the list this year, not having cracked the top 20 in 2012. On a regional basis, the South was well-represented, with the list including four cities in Florida, three in Tennessee and one each in South Carolina, Virginia and Texas.
According to Amazon, its data shows that the U.S. city that is the least amorous is Boise, Idaho, displacing last year’s least romantic spot, New York.
Miami, meanwhile, ranked as the “sexiest” city in the United States, based on Amazon’s sales of sexual wellness products, for the fourth year in a row, followed by Cambridge, Mass. and Alexandria.
