New conference calls for crowd funding support
Slated for next March ahead of the JA New York Spring show, the Jewelry Industry Summit will focus on discussing sustainability and responsible sourcing.
New York--An interactive summit aiming to drive open discussions about sustainability and responsible sourcing has been scheduled to take place in New York just before the JA New York Spring Show, and organizers are using crowd funding to pay for the event’s planning.
Called the “Jewelry Industry Summit,” the goal of this new conference is “create awareness of supply chain challenges and develop tools to take actions to mutually benefit the jewelry industry and create business opportunities and new sources of value for suppliers and the consumer to ensure that the jewelry industry will thrive in the 21st century.”
The summit is scheduled for March 10 to 13. The venue has yet to be announced.
JA New York, which holds three trade shows annually at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, has signed on as the summit’s first sponsor, and will provide registration services for the event’s attendees.
Summit attendees also will be able to use JA New York’s discounted hotel blocks and attend the Spring show using their summit registration.
Organizers of the summit are using crowd funding to pay for the planning of the event, directing anyone who wants to donate to Indiegogo.com, a San Francisco-based crowdfunding website. Crowdfunding refers to the practice of raising money for a project or venture via a large number of people typically reached via the Internet.
Registration for the summit also is available on Indiegogo at the discounted rate of $350.
The crowd funding goal is set at $30,000; as of Monday morning, $1,385 had been raised.
The summit planning committee will hold a briefing session on Sunday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at the Outriggers Ballroom at Mandalay Bay to update the industry on the event.
