Former Gemesis exec joins Rio Tinto

Antwerp, Belgium--Global diamond miner and marketer Rio Tinto recently announced that Clark McEwen, the former chief operating officer of lab-grown diamond company Gemesis, has joined its Antwerp, Belgium-based sales and marketing management team.According to a press release, as part of a reorganization of that team, McEwan will serve as marketing manager, reporting directly to Jean-Marc Lieberherr, Rio Tinto Diamonds general manager of sales and marketing.
McEwan will be based in Antwerp, effective March 1. His career in the diamond industry has spanned more than 25 years, with extensive experience in trading, manufacturing, branding and retailing.
"We are delighted with the appointment of Clark, and his experience will be invaluable in continuing to build on the success of the business and drive a competitive advantage for our select diamantaires," Lieberherr said.
Clark takes over the position of marketing manager from Patrick Coppens, who will become sales manager heading the customer account management team, effective Feb. 1. Coppens' career with Rio Tinto spans 25 years in a range of sales and marketing positions for both the rough and polished diamond business.
