AGS adds QR codes to reports
Las Vegas--The American Gem Society (AGS) Laboratories LLC has added Quick Response (QR) codes to a number of its documents, giving users fast access to the Report Verification section of the AGS website.
The QR codes now are included on the following documents: the AGS Diamond Quality Document series, the Diamond Quality Report series and the AGS Diamond Quality Certificate.
The addition of the QR codes means consumers can skip the step of entering an individual AGS number and carat weight in order to verify a report when comparison shopping. It also allows diamond dealers to download and store inventory documents on their smartphones.
The QR code is unique for each AGS number. Using a smartphone QR code reader or the AGS Lab’s free application for Apple or Android devices, users can link directly to the AGS website to facilitate data retrieval and document verification for a particular diamond.
Those using the code readers will be prompted to download the AGS app. If they choose not to, they will be directed to the Report Verification section of the AGS website where they can view documents in PDF format.
Those using the app will have the option of downloading a PDF of the document to their mobile device or storing it for later viewing or comparison shopping.
“We are always seeking beneficial ways that we can help our clients and the consumer,” AGS Labs Executive Director Peter Yantzer said. “The unique QR code provides another security feature on AGS Lab documents. Scanning the code allows for immediate data verification.”
