By IDEX Online
Ramat-Gan--Officials from the Diamond Administration of China (DAC) and related agencies visited Israel to learn how the local diamond industry functions.
The delegation, headed by DAC Assistant Chairman Zhang Bin, wanted to learn about the roles of the various players in the Israeli industry, including the bourse, the manufacturers, the Diamond Controller, Diamond Institute and the banks.
The team met with Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association Managing Director Udi Sheintal, Israel Diamond Exchange Managing Director Moti Besser, Diamond Controller Shmuel Mordechai and Israel Diamond Institute Chief Marketing Officer Nissim Palomo.
During their visit, the Chinese group visited the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) trading hall, the largest in the world. They also toured the IDE Technology Center, the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum and visited the IDI offices.
Delegation leader Zhang Bin said that the delegation decided to visit Israel because they had learned of the “outstanding performance” of the Israeli Diamond Industry.
The management systems behind these institutions were of particular interest. Zhang Bin said they were looking to establish future cooperation with the Israeli industry in order to develop the Shanghai Diamond Exchange Center.
The Chinese delegation also included DAC Deputy Director Ji Guang Yu, Pudong Customs Deputy Commissioner of Wang Tiefeng, Pudong Customs Deputy Director Liu Feng and Shanghai Taxation Bureau Vice Director Cao Lu.
