Bruins receive Stanley Cup championship rings
Minneapolis--National Hockey League (NHL) team the Boston Bruins, winners of the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship, received their championship rings Tuesday, made by the commemorative ring company Jostens.
The ring symbolizes the Bruins’ sixth NHL championship, celebrates each player that participated in the finals as well as the victory, and also pays tribute to the franchise’s legacy through well-known symbols and events from the team’s history.
The ring, made of 14-karat white gold, features the Bruins’ logo on the face. Eleven princess-cut diamonds make up the “B” of the logo, 35 custom princess-cut diamonds make up the outer circle and 20 round diamonds complete it.
Behind the logo is the Stanley Cup Bowl, with 19 round diamonds composing the top of the bowl and 21 round diamonds composing the bowl’s base. The outer border of the ring is flanked with “Stanley Cup Champions,” with six round diamonds representing six Stanley Cup Championships. Twenty-five round diamonds complete the face of the ring.
One side of the ring (below) features the player’s name with the Bruins’ secondary logo in 18-karat yellow gold with six round diamonds representing the Bruins being one of hockey’s original six franchises. The player’s number appears under the logo.
The other side of the ring shows a Stanley Cup Bowl, filled with 26 round diamonds and surrounded by the other five years in which the Bruins were Stanley Cup Champions. The year “2011” flanks the Bowl at the top, and is filled with 21 round diamonds.
The playoff slogan on the chart posted in the Bruins dressing room throughout the championship run is engraved on the inside of the ring (below), as well as the results of four series won en route to cup victory.
“This incredible championship ring represents the tremendous accomplishment by the entire Bruins organization to bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston,” Cam Neely, president of the Boston Bruins, said. “Jostens did an amazing job creating a ring that symbolizes our championship season in 2011 while connecting this team’s achievement to the great history and tradition of the Bruins.”
Along with the championship rings, the Bruins and Jostens collaborated to create Boston Bruins collectibles, which can be seen here.
Minnesota-based Jostens Inc. created the 2010 Stanley Cup ring for the Chicago Blackhawks and also 29 of 45 Super Bowl Rings to date.
