Sotheby’s Geneva to auction huge yellow diamond
Geneva--Sotheby’s Geneva will be offering the Sun-Drop diamond, a 110-carat fancy vivid yellow pear-shaped diamond, at its sale of Magnificent Jewels on Nov. 15 here.
The stone is the largest known pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond in the world. Exhibited earlier this year at London’s Natural History Museum, it was discovered in South Africa in 2010 and is estimated to realize $11-$15 million.
The diamond will be showcased in an international tour before its sale, appearing at Sotheby’s London Oct. 24-26, Sotheby’s New York Oct. 29-Nov. 2 and Sotheby’s Geneva Nov. 12-15.
Sotheby’s Geneva has a successful history of selling exceptional diamonds, notably auctioning The Graff Pink diamond--a fancy intense pink diamond of nearly 25 carats--for $46.1 million in 2010, which established a new world auction record for a diamond and any jewel.
