Some of Liz Taylor’s jewels to be sold online
New York--Christie’s has announced an online-only auction of hundreds of items belonging to the late Elizabeth Taylor, including more than 500 pieces of fine and costume jewelry.
The real-time online sale will run concurrent with Christie’s live auctions of “The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor,” which will be held in New York and offer more than 2,000 items belonging to the late actress.
“To ensure the full breadth of the collection is accessible to collectors worldwide, Christie’s has taken the innovative step of adding this special, online-only component to our live auctions,” Marc Porter, chairman and president of Christie’s Americas, said.
Included in the online auction will be a diamond and 18-karat white gold necklace (below), set with 126 circular-cut diamonds, which is expected to realize $10,000-$15,000.
A pair of 18-karat white gold and diamond Cartier “Love” hoop earrings (below), in their original box, are expected to realize $3,000-$5,000 during the online sale.
A multi-gem and diamond cocktail ring (below), featuring approximately 38 marquise-cut diamonds and mounted in 18-karat white gold, is expected to realize $2,000-$4,000 during the online sale.
The online auction will also include signed pieces from Chanel and Christian Dior.
Online-only lots will be available for viewing on Nov. 18 here. Online bidding begins Dec. 3, when those interested will be able to register online and begin placing bids for lots in a timed auction. The online sale is divided into four categories: fine jewelry, fashion and accessories, costume jewelry and decorative arts and memorabilia.
Sale closing dates for the online auction are as follows: fine jewelry, Dec. 14; fashion and accessories, Dec. 15; costume jewelry, Dec. 16; decorative arts and memorabilia, Dec. 17.
The live auction of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor will take place at Christie’s New York from Dec. 13-16, and will be preceded by a public exhibition of the collection from Dec. 3-12, also at Christie’s. Tickets and more information about the exhibition can be purchased here.
In keeping with Taylor’s devotion to humanitarian causes, Christie’s will donating a portion of profits generated by exhibition admissions, events and publications related to the exhibitions to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which provides funding to AIDS service organizations around the world.
