New exhibitors, international attendees visit IIJS
Mumbai--The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held its fifth Signature 2012 India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Jan. 6-9 here, drawing in more than 10,000 visitors and approximately 450 exhibitors.
Signature-IIJS was created to represent and showcase the best of India’s jewelry in terms of design, craftsmanship and quality. The show attracts the country’s leading jewelry companies, who display the choicest of products, according to the GJEPC.
“This year, Signature-IIJS was even more attractive with 200 new exhibitors, as well as international pavilions from Thailand, Israel, Belgium and Turkey,” Rajiv Jain, chairman of the GJEPC, said. “India has been on the forefront of gems and jewelry globally, and initiatives like these support, enhance and grow the industry across spheres.”
Jain added that the Indian gems and jewelry industry has “transformed itself from being a manufacturing powerhouse to a design destination in jewelry in recent times.”
The GJEPC gave this year’s show a “facelift,” offering a more lavish ambiance, new features and improved facilities. Exhibitors in the “Signature Club” welcomed new visitors and buyers, and international buyers from the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Qatar, Bangladesh and other locations visited the show to source rough stones, gemstones, finished products and to learn about manufacturing techniques adopted by the jewelry industry.
“Various global initiatives, such as Signature-IIJS and … our recently announced association with the Ministry of Tourism to market jewelry worldwide with the ‘Incredible India’ campaign, the Mines to Market Summit, participation at different prominent exhibitions in the world, all have contributed to our efforts in promoting brand India abroad and help the industry at large in identifying and cultivating new consumer segments and geographies,” Jain said.
The next IIJS show is scheduled for Feb. 22-25, and is expected to show a 20 percent increase “in magnitude and splendor,” the GJEPC said.
Signature-IIJS, IIJS and India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) are organized by the GJEPC to provide a platform for the Indian jewelry industry to grow and collectively set a benchmark, in terms of quality, design and business practices.
Established in 1966, the GJEPC represents 5,500 members and operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
