Midwest show design competition opens
Madison, Wis.--The Midwest Jeweler’s Trade Show (MJTS) is inviting professional jewelers to participate in its third annual design competition.
The contest is split into two categories, professional and student, and open to jewelers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan and Indiana. Precious metals must be the primary metals used, and all stones must be genuine.
Participants may enter a maximum of two entries, but each entry must be in a separate category. Pieces must be original designs, created and crafted by the person entering them. All entries must be designed and produced within 12 months of the contest, and cannot have been mass produced or previously sold.
Entries may have been entered in other competitions, but cannot have won any award. A complete description of the entry piece must accompany it. There is a one-time $25 handling fee for the contest.
Designs will be judged by qualified personnel in the fashion and jewelry industry. Criteria for judging will be based on quality, craftsmanship, degree of difficulty, design, originality, wear-ability and attention to detail.
A “Best of Show” piece will be selected by the judges and the winner will receive an award. The first place winner in each category will also receive an award, and a “Jeweler’s Choice Award,” selected by attendees, will also be given out.
Award-winning entries will be displayed during the MJTS on March 10-11. Additional information about the show can be found here.
Entries for the design competition must be received by Feb. 27. Entry forms, rules and additional information can be found on the MJTS website here.
