MJSA announces Vision Awards winners
Attleboro Falls, Mass.--MJSA has announced the winners of its Vision Awards, a competition that honors design prowess, technical skill and outstanding talent in jewelry design.
The winners will be honored at MJSA Expo New York tradeshow, which will be held March 11-13 at the Hilton New York.
This year’s competition was judged by Michael Coan, Fashion Institute of Technology; Cindy Edelstein, Jeweler’s Resource Bureau; Sarah Graham, Sarah Graham Metalsmithing; Todd Reed, Todd Reed, Inc.; Marlene Richey, consultant; and Tina Snyder, MJSA.
The winners are:
Design Excellence - First Place
Adam Neeley, Adam Neeley Fine Art Jewelry, Laguna Beach, Calif.
Neeley’s “Moonlight and Caviar” ring (below) features a South Sea pearl set upon pavé-set black diamonds. The ring, crafted in 14-karat white gold, is set with white diamonds and was designed using CAD.
Visionary Technical Solution - First Place
Edward Mirell, Edward Mirell, Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Mirell’s “Safari Gold & Black Ti” ring (below) is made with black titanium and 14-karat gold, featuring the co-casting of contemporary and precious metals using new technology.
Gold Distinction - First Place
Julie Lynn Romanenko, Just Jules LLC, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Romanenko’s “Gold Cuff” (below) is made in 14-karat gold with a 1.66-carat diamond slice, surrounded by brilliant round diamonds. Individual sections of the cuff were cast and hand-assembled.
Laser Distinction - First Place
Julie Buckareff, JJ Buckar, Toronto
Buckareff’s “Rock Crystal Quartz Flower” brooch (below) features rock crystal quartz, white diamonds, natural color pink diamonds, and Peruvian opal set in 18-karat rose gold and palladium. The piece was completely assembled with the use of a laser welder.
Palladium Distinction - First Place
Brian Sholdt, Sholdt, Seattle
Sholdt’s palladium engagement ring (below) features his “Fern Finish” and a 6.5-mm diamond.
Platinum Distinction - First Place
Brian Sholdt, Sholdt, Seattle
Sholdt’s platinum ring (below) with a “Fern Finish” milled surface features 23 diamonds.
Custom Design Distinction - First Place
Mark Schneider, Mark Schneider Designs, Long Beach, Calif.
Schneider’s “Black and White” ring (below) is made in 14-karat white gold with black and white acrylic, a magnet and black and white diamonds.
Future of the Industry/Student Awards - First Place
Ariel Alexandrou, University of Kansas
Alexandrou’s “Pods” ring (below).
