MJSA publishes 'Guide to Subcontractors'
Attleboro Falls, Mass.--MJSA has published the “MJSA Guide to Subcontractors,” a list of MJSA members that provide commonly requested contract services, such as stone setting, casting and CAD/CAM.
The guide, available both online and as a PDF handbook, includes detailed information about each listed company, from minimum order requirements to whether it is possible to provide melee. It also offers users access to articles that cover how to best choose and work with a subcontractor.
“MJSA receives many requests from jewelry manufacturers, designers and especially retail custom jewelers who want help in locating a subcontractor,” David Cochran, president and CEO of MJSA, said. “They may need to extend their capabilities, increase their production capacity or just better control costs. With the MJSA Guide to Subcontractors, they now have a handy reference for the information needed to achieve their goals and to develop excellent working relationships with their contract service providers.”
Ten contract service categories are included in the guide: assaying, CAD design, CAM manufacturing, casting, engraving, model making, refining, stamping, stone setting and general contract manufacturing. Insight into specific processes, such as determining whether to stamp or cast and understanding a refiner’s metal sampling process, are also covered.
The Guide to Subcontractors is part of the enhanced MJSA Buyer’s Guide Online, which provides a complete range of jewelry-related products and services, including tools and equipment, metals, gemstones, beads, packaging, finished jewelry and more.
MJSA members can download the Guide to Subcontractors PDF handbook online free of charge, and non-members may purchase the guide for $12.95 at the MJSA online bookstore. Both versions are available from the MJSA website here, or can be obtained by emailing info@mjsa.org.
