WDC, CIBJO to hold annual meetings in Israel
New York--The World Diamond Council (WDC) and CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, recently announced the dates and location for their annual meetings, which will be held back to back for the second year in a row.
The ninth annual meeting of the WDC, the industry body created to deal with the issue of “conflict” diamonds, is scheduled for May 5 and 6 in Tel Aviv at the Dan Panorama hotel. The meeting is the official forum for the WDC’s general assembly.
The Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) is the host of the meeting, marking the third WDC annual meeting held in Israel and hosted by the IDI.
“As founding members of the World Diamond Council, we have firmly supported the organization and its mission from the moment of its establishment, and we are excited to be able to host the annual meeting in Tel Aviv in May,” said IDI Chairman Moti Ganz. “We are especially privileged to be able to pay tribute to the WDC’s founding president, Eli Izhakoff, who will be stepping aside in June after 13 years of dedication and achievement.”
Izhakoff formally announced his resignation last month but informed the WDC’s board of directions of his plans to step down at the organization’s annual meeting last year. He said the decision to resign is “entirely personal.”
The first day of the meeting, May 5, includes a WDC board meeting and welcome reception while the second day features the WDC plenary and gala dinner.
Immediately following the WDC meeting is CIBJO’s annual congress, also scheduled to take place at the Dan Panorama.
The congress is set for May 7 to 9, with pre-congress meetings beginning on May 5. The IDI is serving as the host for the CIBJO meeting as well.
The congress serves as forum for CIBJO’s professional commissions and is the time when the organization’s Blue Books on diamonds, colored stones, pearls, precious metals and gemology are discussed and updated.
