Tiffany outlines sustainability efforts online
New York--Tiffany & Co. is highlighting its environmental and social responsibility efforts with a new online report, the company announced last week.
Tiffany’s first Corporate Responsibility Report is now available on Tiffany.com/sustainability. Tweets about the new site can be found on Twitter using the hashtag #tiffanycsr.
Included in the report is insight into how Tiffany sources precious materials, including gold, silver, platinum and diamonds, and how the company works with non-governmental organizations and the mining and jewelry industries to improve mining standards.
One specific example cited in the report is Tiffany’s long-standing pledge not to use any gold mined from the proposed, controversial Pebble Mine in Alaska.
The online report will be updated every year to show progress and year-over-year performance comparisons. Tiffany hired PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP to provide limited assurance on select metrics in the report.
The report was developed in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative’s voluntary sustainability reporting framework. In addition, Tiffany joined the United Nations’ Global Compact, a policy initiative for business that want to align their practices in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
“Our position as a leader in the luxury jewelry market gives us the opportunity and the responsibility to set an example for the industry and to conduct our business in a manner that is consistent with our core beliefs--protection of the environment, respect for human rights and support for the communities in which we do business,” Tiffany Chairman and CEO Mike Kowalski said.
