Police on hunt for suspect in Conn. homicide
Westport, Conn.--Authorities here have released surveillance photos of a man they want to question in connection with an armed robbery that left a jeweler dead and his associate in critical condition.
According to the Westport Police Department, the incident happened at 10 p.m. on Dec. 8 at YZ Jewelry Manufacturer, a manufacturer and cutter of diamonds and jewelry that sees clients by appointment. Customers have to be buzzed into the shop, which is located on the second floor of a strip mall in Westport.
Police believe a lone male gunman, who had visited the store the day before, entered the shop on Dec. 8, shooting and killing the jeweler, 65-year-old Yekutiel “Kuti” Zeevi, and critically wounding his associate, 48-year-old Ronen Konfino. He then made off with six diamonds valued at about $300,000, according to a source cited by WesportNow.com.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early- to mid-40s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a medium build. He had three or four days growth of facial hair, short, thin salt-and-pepper hair and was wearing black-framed glasses, a black driving cap, blue jeans, brown cowboy boots and a blue or green two-tone jacket.
His vehicle was possibly a “boxy” blue four-door car.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective George Taylor with the Westport Police Department at (203) 341-6080 or Lt. Vincent Penna at (203) 341-6006.
