Alert: Conn. slaying suspect spotted in Phila, NYC
New York--The suspect wanted in connection with the Dec. 8 murder of a jeweler in Westport, Conn., has been spotted in security footage visiting some of the main jewelry centers on the East Coast.
Police said this “well-dressed” and “well-spoken” suspect knows the jewelry industry well and is “extremely dangerous.”
According to an alert issued by the Jewelers’ Security Alliance (JSA) on Friday, the suspect was seen on Dec. 5 visiting at least two different stores on Jewelers Row in Philadelphia, near 8th and Sansom streets (video below). In addition, the same man was seen on Dec. 4 on 47th Street in New York City’s Diamond District.
Less than a week later, this suspect is believed to have been responsible for the shooting death of 65-year-old Yekutiel “Kuti” Zeevi and the wounding of 48-year-old Ronen Konfino inside YZ Jewelry Manufacturing in Westport, Conn.
The suspect is described a white male, early to mid-40s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a medium build and short, thin salt-and-pepper hair. He may be driving a “boxy” blue vehicle, possibly a Scion or Nissan Cube.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Westport Police Department at (203) 341-6080.
The JSA notes that jewelry criminals are extremely mobile. An alert about a criminal in one state should be taken seriously by jewelers throughout the country, even if they are not located near the scene of the crime.
