Test version of jewelry search engine launches
Dillon, Colo.--Verichannel LLC recently announced the launch of Gemfling.com in beta mode, a Google-like search engine designed to be the go-to online source for consumers looking for information about jewelry, just as they turn to travel-specific websites when booking an airline ticket.
“You don’t go to Google to buy an airline ticket, you go to Expedia,” Verichannel CEO Jacques Voorhees said. “Why? Because it is a specialized search engine that focuses on the unique characteristics of the travel industry, hence delivering a more efficient shopping experience for the consumer. Now with Gemfling the jewelry industry can provide similar efficiency.”
Gemfling has three functions. The first is a key-word search system based on back-end Google technology but restricted to jewelry industry websites.
The second is a shopping function that allows users to search the web via specific channels (local stores, e-tailers, brands or business-to-consumer multi-vendor platforms such as eBay). The results are delivered in side-by-side browser windows, similar to the way results are delivered on travel site Kayak.com.

Stores and brands that want to appear as high up as possible in search results can pay $250 a year for placement. Spots are being offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and stores and brands must have a website in order to be included in the search.
Gemfling’s third function is a store locator tied into Google Maps. Users enter their ZIP code and the engine generates a list of jewelry stores near them.
The site launched on Jan. 11. Verichannel said a rewards-based viral marketing program is slated to begin in the second quarter. The program will reward both retail stores and consumers based on usage and promotional activity.
Verichannel recommends retailers visit Gemfling.com/shopping/localstores and search their ZIP code to ensure their store information comes up and, if it is there, that it appears properly.
Every company in the industry can visit Gemfling.com, register at no cost in the Trade section and add their store to Gemfling.com or make changes to their data.
Those wanting to purchase placement within Gemfling can contact Verichannel at (917) 512-2393, ext. 4 or email teri@verichannel.com.
