De Beers sponsors weddings in Empire State Bldg
New York--On Valentine’s Day, four couples ascended more than halfway up the 102-story Empire State Building to exchange wedding vows. The couples, which--for the first time--included same-sex couples, had the chance to say “I do” after winning a contest sponsored by Colin Cowie Weddings, a luxury wedding and event planning company.
To celebrate its $550 million renovation, the New York landmark teamed up with Colin Cowie, De Beers Diamond Jewellers and other vendors to hold a contest for this year’s Valentine’s Day weddings. Couples who wanted to marry at the Empire State Building had to enter the contest on Facebook and submit a video explaining what makes their love “soar.”
The couple's De Beers Diamond Jewellers wedding bands are shown below. De Beers said all the selected bands have at least one diamond, even the plain bands, thanks to a diamond hidden on the inside.
Angela Vega and Lubin Masibay, of San Francisco, are both nurses who spent many movie nights watching Sleepless in Seattle, a film in which the Empire State Building plays a starring role (rings shown below).
Paula Cubero and Enrique Catter live in Greenwich, Conn., but are originally from Mexico and Peru, respectively (rings shown below).
Stephanie Figarelle and Lela McArthur are from Anchorage, Alaska. Tuesday marked their first visit to New York (rings shown below).
New Yorkers Phil Fung and Shawn Klein were the first same-sex couple from New York State to marry at the Empire State Building (rings shown below).
