Seattle--In honor of Valentine’s Day, Amazon.com recently released its list of the Top 20 Most Romantic Cities in the U.S. The most-amorous award went to a Southern city that is home to a well-known university.

Knoxville, Tenn., home of the University of Tennessee, is the most romantic city in the country, according to the list, which is based on sales of romance novels and relationship books, both on the Kindle and in print, as well as sales of romantic comedy movies, Barry White albums and sexual wellness products.

The annual list tracks these sales at the beginning of each year in cities with more than 100,000 residents. 

Knoxville knocked Alexandria, Va., from the top spot into No. 2, following that city’s two-year reign as the most romantic. Springfield, Mo., came in at No. 3, followed by Orlando, Fla., Cincinnati, Vancouver, Wash., and Miami. For the third year in a row, Miami also claimed the title of sexiest city in the country with the most sales in the sexual wellness category.

Rounding out the list were Murfreesboro, Tenn., Dayton, Ohio, and Columbia, S.C., at No. 10.

The Steel City, Pittsburgh, came in at No. 11, followed by Clearwater, Fla., St. Louis, Erie, Pa., Clarksville, Tenn., Everett, Wash., Las Vegas, Rochester, N.Y., and Tallahassee, Fla.

Overall, Florida is the state with the most cities on the top 20 list with a total of five: Orlando, Miami, Clearwater, Gainesville and Tallahassee.

Amazon.com also calculated the least romantic cities in the country based on the same set of criteria and found that Cupid’s arrow most definitely didn’t pierce the Big Apple.

New York City is the least romantic city in the country, with Winston-Salem, N.C., Patterson, N.J., and El Monte, Calif., also ranking at the bottom of the list.
