Trenton, N.J.--SellYourGold.com is teaming up with international recycling company TerraCycle Inc. to add a charitable aspect for consumers who are selling their precious metal jewelry for cash.

Based in Trenton, N.J., TerraCycle is a recycling and “up-cycling” company that specializes in collecting and repurposing non-recyclable waste. The company does this through its Brigade programs in which participants collect and send in used home, school and office products and packaging, such as drink pouches, chip bags and pens.

TerraCycle and its partners pay 2 cents per item for the refuse while also donating to charity. Through these programs, TerraCycle said it has kept more than 2 billion pieces of trash out of landfills and donated more than $3 million to charity.

TerraCycle’s new program with SellYourGold.com has been dubbed the “Jewelry Brigade.” Interested consumers can sign up on the TerraCycle website and then will receive a packet with information and a shipping envelope for the jewelry, which ships for free.

The processing of every package is tracked and within 24 hours, customers will receive an appraisal on their gold, silver or platinum. They are free to decline the offer but, if they accept, they receive a check in the mail while SellYourGold.com and TerraCycle will donate 2 percent of the appraisal value to that consumer’s charity of choice. The 2 percent does not come out of the appraisal price paid to the consumer.
