Depeche Mode, Hublot auction raises nearly $300K
Feb 26, 2010
Dusseldorf, Germany--Depeche Mode fans just couldn't get enough at a charitable auction of Hublot "Big Bang" timepieces bearing album artwork from the famed British band. An online auction of 12 unique timepieces featuring artwork corresponding to each of the band's 12 studio albums raised nearly 317,500 Swiss francs (or nearly $300,000) for charity.
The auction began Feb. 8 and ended Wednesday, Feb. 25, with auction house Patrizzi and Co. and LiveAuctioneers.com donating their services. By the event's end, bidders had helped raise about $295,000 in U.S. dollars for Teenage Cancer Trust, a nonprofit organization developed to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
Along with the timepieces, the top bidders took home exclusive presentations sets featuring a deluxe vinyl version of the album their watch is related to; a USB key containing a digital edition of the album and a documentary about the making of the album; an original album artwork print and framed gold CD; and a photograph signed by all members of the group who contributed to the album.
All proceeds from the sale were presented to the Teenage Cancer Trust last night at Depeche Mode's penultimate concert on the "Sounds of the Universe Tour."
