From BaselWorld: New from Casio
By Michelle Graff
Basel--Multi-layered dials, world time and daily alarms were among the updates to Casio’s “Edifice Black Label Collection” introduced at BaselWorld 2011.
Casio debuted three new models in the Edifice collection: the EFX530P-1AV, the EF550PB-1AV and the EF527BK-1AV, each with its own distinct features.
The EFX530P features a stacked sapphire crystal dial with the sub-dials arranged three-dimensionally on the face (below). The watch features an additional, smaller hour hand that can be used to keep track of the time in another time zone and can be layered under the home time hand when not in use.
The EFX530P retails for $380.
The EF550PB (below) is styled with an engine motif, featuring stacked sub-dials strategically concealed for maximum legibility. The 3 o’clock sub-dial is designed to mimic a racing wheel while the 12-hour retrograde chronograph movement allows the second hand to alternate between clockwise and counter-clockwise motion during timed measurements. It retails for $250.
The third addition the Edifice collection is the EF527BK. This model houses a 12-hour chronograph movement and an inner-rotating slide-rule bezel, which is reminiscent of pilot watches and allows the user to do simple arithmetic conversions and other calculations, such as time-distance.
The EF527BK (below) also retails for $250.
