AWCI launches survey, holds education symposium

Aug 5, 2011

Harrison, Ohio--The American Watchmakers – Clockmakers Institute (AWCI) is asking retailers to take its watch and clock service questionnaire, designed to generate data on market demands for horology training.

The survey is accessible here.

The AWCI is also in the middle of its 2011 Convention & Educational Symposium, which started Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, Wash.

Today, the symposium is offering product demonstrations and a vendor trade fair to display the latest in horology products and services. On Saturday, there will be three classes for watchmakers and three classes for clockmakers.

On Sunday, the final day, there is a swap meet that is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is $10 at the door. Anyone may rent a display table for $25, and participants will be offering a variety of timekeeping materials to buy, sell or trade, ranging from parts, tools and supplies to watches and clocks.

Gary Girdvainis, who served as an editor of some of the industry’s key publications, was the symposium’s keynote speaker.

Those wishing to attend the symposium can register here.
