Watch news: Piaget, Seiko, Alpina, Glashütte
New York--Actor Stephen Moyer donned Piaget’s Altiplano watch on a recent episode of HBO’s hit series True Blood where he plays vampire Bill Compton.
Moyer’s character, seen above in a scene with his vampire daughter Jessica, played by actress Deborah Ann Woll, donned the 38mm Altiplano in yellow gold with white alligator strap. The watch features Piaget’s ultra-thin 430P movement with a case that is only 6mm thick.
Piaget introduced the 43mm Altiplano in 2010 and set two new world records, one for the thinnest automatic movement at 2.35mm and the thinnest automatic watch at 5.25mm.
As part of its three-year partnership with FC Barcelona, current holders of the Spanish league title and UEFA Champions League titles, Seiko has introduced a new collection of chronographs in the team’s color with their logo on the dial.
The 42mm, caliber 7T62 FC Barcelona Chronograph (below) has split-time measurement capability, single-time alarm function and is water resistant to 10 bars. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel buckle.
The Barcelona chronograph comes in a special box accompanied by a leaflet featuring some of the team’s leading players and their signatures. As the new season opens, each member of the team will be presented with his own timepiece.
In celebration of its fifth anniversary, Alpina Genève introduced an 18-karat rose gold watch (below) for its Alpina Startimer Pilot Collection, which is influenced by the brand’s clean designs from the 1920s and 1930s.
During those two decades, Alpina Watch International was known as a specialized manufacturer and official supplier of military watches utilized by pilots.
The 18-karat rose gold addition to the Pilot collection features a 44 mm, anti-reflective, satin-finished case, matte black dial with oversized white luminous numerals and the signature red Alpina triangle on the second hand.
High-end German watchmaker Glashütte Original has become the latest watch brand to introduce an application for the iPhone. Dubbed the “Senator Diary” after the Glashütte watch that allows wearers to set an alarm 30 days in advance, the app includes a catalog, interactive tour of the Glashütte factory and games that allow users to learn more about watchmaking.
The app also has its own functioning Diary to remind users of special dates. The app opens with a splash screen showing the Diary watch displaying the correct date and time (below).
It is available now in both German and English, with a Chinese version in the works.
