Unique Pateks headline fall Antiquorum sale
New York--Two rare Patek Philippe watches are among the timepieces Antiquorum is offering at its Sept. 14 auction in New York City.
The highlight of the sale is a Patek Philippe Ref. 2499, third series, originally from the collection of Professor Thomas Engel.
Made in 1976, the 18-karat gold watch has a round button chronograph, perpetual calendar and moon phases and is exceptionally rare. It is expected to garner between $300,000 and $500,000 at auction.
Another highlight of the sale is a Patek Philippe Split-Second Chronograph Ref. 1436 created in 1960 and sold by Tiffany & Co. in 1961. The 18-karat yellow gold watch has a transitional dial, square button co-axial split-seconds chronograph and tachometer.
The model is believed to be unique, and the watch is in pristine condition. Estimates call for the timepiece to sell for $200,000 to $300,000.
Also available at the auction will be a set of two Breguet souscription (subscription) watches made in the late 1990s. The set consists of a platinum minute-repeating watch with perpetual calendar, phases and age of the moon and leap year indication (below, left) and a platinum self-winding pocket watch (below, right) with 45-hour power reserve indication, instantaneous calendar, phases and age of the moon.
Accompanying the set is a wooden winding box, 30-cm platinum chain, platinum magnifying glass and two platinum tools. The set is expected to sell for $120,000 to $140,000.
For Rolex fans, Antiquorum is slated to offer a Rolex Daytona Ref. 6241 made in 1967 and sold by Tiffany & Co. The rare, water-resistant watch is crafted of 14-karat yellow gold with round button chronograph and an anti-reflective black bezel. The watch is expected to garner between $40,000 and $60,000.
Also available will be a Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 “James Bond” “Big Crown” watch with a gilt dial, made in 1956. It is a self-winding, water-resistant stainless steel diver’s watch with a stainless steel Rolex expandable rivet bracelet. It is expected to garner between $35,000 and $65,000.
The auction will take place at Antiquorum’s headquarters in the Fuller Building on Madison Avenue in New York. The first session is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the second for 2 p.m.
Previews are slated for Sept. 4 at the Raffles City Convention Centre – Clark Room in Singapore; Sept. 6 at Antiquorum Hong Kong; Sept. 8 at Antiquorum Shanghai and Sept. 11 to 14 in New York.
