Audemars Piguet to lead Heritage auction
New York--Watches from brands including Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe are among those set for auction at Heritage Auctions’ Nov. 18 sale in New York.
Leading Heritage’s “Timepieces Signature Auction” is a diamond, platinum and 24-karat gold “Quantieme Perpetual Automatique” from Audemars Piguet, the second of just three produced in the 1990s.
The watch, priced at $170,000 in the mid-1990s, is expected to garner at least $50,000 at auction. “Its impact and beauty aren’t diminished one bit 16 years later,” said Jim Wolf, director of timepiece auctions at Heritage. “We’ll see if it lives up to the company’s retail expectations or if a smart collector gets a great buy.”
In addition, the auction features a trio of watches, contemporary and vintage, from Patek Philippe.
A rare, Ref. 5205 center-seconds 18-karat white gold annual calendar self-winding watch with AM/PM indicator and moonphase (below) is expected to $30,000 or more.
Also expected to sell for more than $30,000 is a Ref. 2526 gold self-winding watch with an enamel dial from 1954. “The Patek Philippe 2526 is of particular note due to its flawless enamel dial, which is very rare to find in this model,” Wolf said.
Rounding out the trio of Patek Philippe watches is a rose gold minute repeater pocket watch with split-second chronograph made in 1893 for Jaques & Marcus New York. This watch is expected to fetch $25,000 or more.
The Nov. 18 Heritage auction will take place at the Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion, located at 79th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City.
