Complicated timepieces highlight Antiquorum sale
New York--Antiquorum’s year-end auction of modern and vintage timepieces here on Dec. 7 totaled $3.5 million, with bidders hailing from Japan, the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Russia, Switzerland and the United States.
“Exceptional examples of modern timepieces in outstanding condition continue to attract collectors from all corners of the globe,” Charles Tearle, watch director for Antiquorum USA, said. “We were particularly pleased with the results for the modern Vacheron Constantin watches included in [the] sale.”
The highlight of the sale was a 2000 Vacheron Constantin Patrimony model platinum minute-repeater with a perpetual calendar and moon phases, which realized $218,500.
A 1998 Patek Philippe water-resistant platinum wristwatch with a round button chronograph, register, perpetual calendar and moon phases (below) realized $128,500.
A rare 2007 Parmigiani Fleurier “Bugatti” diver’s wristwatch made in 18-karat white gold and diamonds with 10-day autonomy (below) realized $122,500.
A 1995 Patek Philippe water-resistant, platinum wristwatch with round-button chronograph, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year and 24-hour indication (below) realized $98,500 at the auction.
Vintage Rolexes, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Girard-Perregaux also achieved strong prices at the sale.
“We are exceptionally please to have uncovered and sold some of the world’s most extraordinary timepieces in 2011,” Evan Zimmermann, president and CEO of Antiquorum, said. “In the year ahead, we look forward to continued success and to offering our client only the very best the market has to offer.”
Antiquorum’s next auction will take place Feb. 26 in Hong Kong.
