Watch news: Breitling, Hublot and more
New York--Breitling has opened its second U.S. boutique, the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer announced recently.
The 800-square-foot store (below) is located in the Aventura Mall in southern Florida, between the cities of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. It opened on Nov. 18. According to Breitling, the location was selected because of its appeal to both domestic and international, particularly South American, consumers.
Breitling’s other U.S. boutique is located on 57th Street in New York City.
Hublot announced last month at the Guangzhou International Auto Show in China that it has become the watchmaking partner of Ferrari. The comprehensive agreement covers a range of activities including Hublot being the Official Watch of Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari and the Official Timekeeper of Ferrari, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Challenge.
To mark the start of the partnership, Hublot introduced the Big Bang Chrono Tourbillon Ferrari, (above) a limited-edition, 44 mm HUB 6300 column-wheel chronograph with clutch tourbillon escapement coupled directly to the cage and a power reserve indicator on the dial side. Hublot will create only 20 of these watches as a nod to 20th anniversary of the first Ferrari in China.
On Nov. 29, French auction house Artcurial offered for auction a total of 565 Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces at the Hôtel Marcel Dassault in Paris. It is the largest collection from the brand ever to go on sale.
In total, the auction garnered $2.5 million, selling 95 percent by value and 60 percent by volume. The top lots include a pocket perpetual calendar watch in steel, which was estimated at $66,733 to $106,772 and sold for $117,183 and a Reverso with a blue dial, which garnered $64,323, well above its maximum estimate of $16,014.
Sector recently announced NBA star Kris Humphries, who mostly recently played for the New Jersey Nets, as it new spokesperson. Humphries, pictured below with Sector USA President Phil Schwetz (far left) and Circa CEO Chris Del Gatto, has been in talks with the brand for months and joined Sector and Circa, the exclusive partner of Sector in the U.S. and Caribbean, at the 15th anniversary season of Bridgehampton Polo in New York over the summer.
A portion of the sales of Sector’s Shark Master collection will benefit the Kris Humphries Foundation, which is dedicated to fighting childhood obesity through creating active communities.
Frederique Constant has launched the Double Heart Jewelry Collection, a line of earrings, necklaces and bracelets that play off the company’s ladies’ Double Heart Beat watches.
The collection includes pieces in sterling silver and 18-karat rose gold with or without diamonds or precious stones. Some are packaged in gift sets with Double Heart Beat watches while others are sold separately.
Richard Mille has extended the warranty on his watches from three to five years, as watchmaking statistics shows the rapid aging of the seals after two to three years.
The warranty will be applied when a watch has been serviced before the end of its third year by an official Richard Mille agent. It will cover watches that cease to work after a “minor shock” but will not apply to watches that have sustained violent shocks, as evidenced by broken glass or signs that the case has been crushed or the watch has been dropped.
If a watch is sold, the five-year warranty is transferred to the new owner.
