Watch news: Swatch expands boutique concept
New York--The Swatch Group announced recently that it is opening three more of its multi-brand Tourbillion Boutiques, bringing the concept’s total to seven in the U.S. market.
The new stores will be located on Post Street in San Francisco, North Michigan Avenue in Chicago and in The Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey, joining existing stores in Beverly Hills, Calif., Las Vegas, New York and Costa Mesa, Calif.
The Tourbillion Boutiques contain a number of different watch and jewelry brands presented via a shop-in-shop concept, with each one having its own dedicated area.
The watch brands carried in Swatch Group’s Tourbillon Boutiques are: Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, and Omega. The boutiques also carry Léon Hatot jewelry, and jewelry and watches from Swatch.
New in Geneva
The annual Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch show took place Jan. 21 to 25 in Geneva.
Among the timepieces unveiled at the show were Montblanc’s TimeWalker watches, designed for those who travel extensively. The functions of the TimeWalker includes simultaneous display of the times in both the user’s local and home time zones or the UTC (Coordinated Universal Time +/- time zone) function, as well as the ability to show time all over the planet.

One TimeWalker model, the World-Time Hemispheres watch shows the time in all 24 of the world’s time zones, with the wearer’s local time indicated by the hands. The watch comes in two versions: one for the Northern and one for the Southern Hemisphere, both pictured above.
New for women from Montblanc is the Princesse Grace de Monaco collection, dedicated to the memory of American actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly.
The watches in the Grace collection are 34 mm with a mechanical self-winding MB 4810/409 movement and 42-hour power reserve.
Among the timepieces in the collection is the “Pétales de Rose Motif,” pictured below, an 18-karat white gold watch modeled after Princess Grace’s favorite flower, the rose.

It is set with 810 diamonds totaling 6.763 carats, including 80 round brilliants on the white mother-of-pearl dial.
Baume & Mercier debuted a new men’s collection, Clifton, at SIHH. The collection is a modern interpretation of the men’s classic round watch, with clean, sun satin-finished dials with only small complications on a few of the models.
The watches also have curves on the case and bezel and a sapphire case back. They are available in steel or 18-karat red gold on an alligator strap or stainless steel bracelet.
The cornerstone of the collection is the Clifton 1830, a 42 mm, manual-wind watch with movement from La Joux-Perret.
The collection launches at retail in April.
Also at SIHH, Baume & Mercier introduced a quartz Linea 27 mm series of women’s watches featuring interchangeable straps in hand-woven leather in a white, orange (below) and beige. Actress Emmanuelle Chriqui, of HBO’s Entourage, collaborated with the brand in designing the straps. The collection is slated to launch in spring/summer 2013.

In addition, the brand introduced the Linea Automatic, a 27 mm mechanical watch with a transparent case back that is available in steel or two-tone with a mother-of-pearl dial set with 11 diamonds. The Linea Automatic will be available in stores in September.
