Jewelry brands are jumping on the bag bandwagon. According to Women's Wear Daily, jewelry brands such as Asprey, Bulgari, Cartier, Chopard and de Grisogono are expanding their offerings to include handbag collections.

And why not? Brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior are making contributions to the trend in fashion jewelry by creating bangles, charm bracelets and cocktail rings.

Although these fashion houses stepped outside of their core businesses, jewelers such as Van Cleef & Arpels are hesitant, expressing concern about diluting the brand's name.

de Grisogono's Gruosi explains that his bag line is just a creative whimsy. On the other hand, Cartier is aiming for longevity. But who among the jewelers is more likely to achieve long-term success in the bag world?
