Jewelry designers have started the new year off with a bang. Here are my picks for the year's best so far:

Vestal, (949) 631-7036
"The Destroyer" comes with a black face and steel band and has a modern, edgy feel. Vestal Watch Co. began almost a decade ago in Newport Beach, Calif.
Suggested retail price is $184.

Diamond in the Rough, (212) 710-1070
Finished diamonds are so 2007. Start the new year off right with this platinum pendant showcasing rough diamonds totaling 87.72 carats and polished diamond accents totaling 1.63 carats.
Founder Daniel Eskapa created Diamond in the Rough in 2003, but only recently have he and company president Anjanette Clisura expanded the company to make it more widely available to consumers.
Price available on request.
