Did you know that for every 10,000 carats of mined gem-quality diamonds, there is only one natural color diamond found? This fact explains their higher value compared to regular ones. Since 2011, there has been a sharp increase in sales of fancy diamonds at auctions.

The growth in demand is primarily because there are almost no new deposits across the world, and natural color diamonds are becoming very rare. The gradual depletion of existing diamond mines will likely further reduce the natural color diamonds volumes in the market and, accordingly, may lead to an increase in their price.

Today, there are few deposits in the world with reserves of natural color diamonds. Several of them are located in Yakutia, the Russian region with harsh climate conditions. The Russian companuy ALROSA mines about 7,000 carats of natural color diamonds per year.

Moreover, this is one of two diamond mining companies in the world that has in-house polishing operations. ALROSA manufactures polished diamonds on its own, selling them at the auctions internationally.

This September, ALROSA will present about 200 polished diamonds of various shapes and colors certified by GIA. The company will hold the second True Colors auction for unique colored diamonds in Hong Kong. Gemstones cut by the Russian miner have a strong reputation and the highest quality of cut performed in accordance with famous Russian jewelry traditions.

The same auction held in 2018 brought in $9 million revenue from sales and 210 unique diamonds were sold for well above their starting price. This year’s auction is expected to be no less successful, but its main feature is that ALROSA will offer a full origin story with every stone for the first time.

The ability to trace the stone lets the consumer know all the steps of a diamonds’ journey from mine to ring. Having a closed production cycle, the company can guarantee origin of every polished diamond, especially because every one of them has its own unique ID.

Every concrete diamond has its own customizable movie, which is available on the company’s online platform. There, one can also find a special extended digital diamond passport with information about its origin along with standard characteristics.

ALROSA’s natural color diamonds will be available for viewing during The September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (September 16-20). The True Colors auction will be for the first time conducted via ALROSA online platform on September 16-23, 2019.
