Mumbia--Indian diamond manufacturer Kiran Gems participated in India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative earlier this month by cleaning up Juhu beach.
More than 900 company employees participated in the activity, including Group Chairman Shree Vallabhbhai Patel, Managing Director Shree Mavji Patel, and directors Shree Dinesh Lakhani, Shree Rajesh Lakhani and Varun Lakhani.
A total of 47 employee groups covered the entire stretch of the beach for the Dec. 20 clean-up, Kiran said, and 90 other industry patrons also helped support the event.
Following the clean-up, the top six groups were awarded trophies for best performance, and 20 individual performances also were recognized. In attendance to give away the prizes were Ashish Shelar, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and president of its Mumbai unit, and Alka Kelkar, deputy mayor of Mumbai.
“This is our country and we should care for it,” said Kiran Managing Director Mavji Patel. “Through this we have learned two things--we should practice cleanliness, and we should not litter. I appreciate every employee’s effort today and congratulate them for such a great accomplishment.”
Kiran Gems manufactured 5.3 million carats of rough diamonds across its 167 units in Surat and Ahmedabad in the past financial year, and exported polished diamonds to more than 60 countries during the period, including the United States.
