This Lalaounis pendant is up for grabs at The Hellenic Initiative’s sixth annual gala happening in New York City this Friday. Inspired by shields of Trojan warriors seen on the Temple of Aphoris in Aigina, 4th century B.C, the pendant is made of hand-hammered 18-karat yellow gold and diamonds on an obsidian base. Valued at $2,700, the starting bid is $1,350.
New York—Greek fine jewelry designers are chipping in to support an endeavor that benefits economic recovery in their country.

The Hellenic Initiative is holding a live and silent auction this Friday at its sixth annual gala in New York City, and a number of designers have donated jewelry to the sale. They are: Lalaounis, Nikos Koulis, Diane Kordas, Minas, Alexandra Koumba, Vanessa Geroulanos and Danelian’s Diamond Club.

The sale, which encompasses items like vacations, fine art, books, dining and various experiences, will benefit entrepreneurial programs in Greece as well as Greek non-governmental organizations that foster economic development and provide crisis relief, particularly to children.

20180919 AlexandraKoumbaThis Alexandra Koumba cuff is one of the pieces of jewelry featured in The Hellenic Initiative’s upcoming auction. The plated gold cuff, valued at $270, is handmade from the imprint of a crochet lace wedding dress. The starting bid is $140.
THI was founded in 2012 to lead the Greek diaspora in contributing to Greece’s economic recovery. At last year’s gala it raised more than $2 million.

In addition to the Greek jewelry designers represented in the silent auction, Shinola donated two timepieces, a women’s watch and a men’s watch. Additionally, costume jewelry line Madly Made for Patricia Field donated three pieces inspired by Greek symbols and rendered with a kitschy twist.
