The week started on a sad note, as the industry continued to react and reflect on the news that designer and pioneer Scott Kay died of a heart attack Dec. 4. His family released a statement that it would “forge on” as he would’ve wanted, and his eponymous business re-opened Monday.

Big stones also topped the news, as Gemfields announced the sale of its 40.23-carat “Rhino” ruby and lab-grown diamond company Pure Grown reported the creation of a 3.04-carat colorless diamond.

Meanwhile, the record-setting sale of a Cartier “Tutti Frutti” bracelet during Sotheby’s most recent auction in New York pushed the company’s 2014 jewelry sales total to new heights.
