It It was a sad week with the loss of three major influencers in different segments of the industry--Fran Udell of London Jewelers, activist and gem dealer Dana Schorr, and well-known diamond cutter and former Lazare Kaplan Vice Chairman George Kaplan.

Meanwhile, Jewelers Mutual announced it would start covering smart jewelry while the GIA said it will no longer grade diamonds from one Indian company that allegedly submitted multiple diamonds inscribed with report numbers for other stones.
