The majority of the industry descended upon Las Vegas for the start of the annual Couture, JCK and U.S. Antique Jewelry & Watch shows this week.

New pieces and collections are a given at the shows, as well as announcements from brands, including Royal Asscher’s new, patented brilliant cut and global ad campaign. Celebratory events also dot market week, such as the Diamond Empowerment Fund’s annual gala that took place Thursday evening, with former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland in attendance.

In the world of major retailers, Amazon hinted it may be introducing a handmade marketplace to rival Etsy, and on the diamond front, De Beers announced it is looking for a buyer for its Kimberley Mines in South Africa.
