News around two very notable diamonds surfaced this week--the 1,109-carat rough diamond unearthed by Lucara last November will go up for sale this summer, and Rio Tinto unveiled a 2.83-carat oval-shaped violet-colored diamond.

And, as the calendar flipped to May, emeralds were in the spotlight as the month’s birthstone while celebrities walked the red carpet at the Met Gala, showing off their interpretations of this year’s “Manus x Machina” theme.

In addition, one New York retailer gave itself a new name to celebrate its 40th anniversary, Endless Jewelry replaced its three top executives and the countdown for Las Vegas market week began.

Relive the week that was, in photos.
