Started last year by JFC, the Local Grants program divvies up a total of $100,000 among 10 charities nominated by members of the industry and voted on by the public on Facebook.

This year, voting took place between Oct. 6 and 19, with nearly 18,000 people casting ballots with a click.

The JFC will send checks to the retailers and organizations that nominated the charities so they can present them. In addition, the organization will include a sample media alert and press release that can be used to garner local press for both the business and the charity.
