New York--Day’s Jewelers presented a check for $102,300 to Jewelers for Children after pledging to raise at least $100,000 for the charity in 2014 to mark a century in business.

While in New York City on Jan. 10 for the annual run of post-holiday events, Day’s owner Jeff Corey presented JFC Executive Director David Rocha and Ruth Batson, American Gem Society president and chairman of the JFC board of directors, with the $100,000-plus check.

Day’s Jewelers--which has a total of six stores, all in New England--raised the money in a variety of ways, including voluntary payroll deductions from the retailer’s employees, customer contributions at the point of sale, vendor contributions and sales of certain products. Corey challenged each of his six stores to come up with creative ways to contribute.

In addition, the jeweler raised money for JFC at its 100th anniversary gala and auction held in early November at the Portland Westin Hotel in Maine. The state’s governor and first lady, Paul and Anne LePage, were guests of honor at the gala, and Forevermark, Seiko, Rembrandt, ArtCarved and Martin Flyer were among the major sponsors.

Corey called reaching the $100,000 goal a “monumental accomplishment” made possible by its customers, employees and suppliers.

“Our team embarked on this ambitious goal in March. We selected Jewelers for Children because it is an amazing organization that benefits not only children in Maine and New Hampshire, but all across America,” he said.
