New York--One New York City jeweler and a handful of jewelry brands got some national airtime on the Today show last week.
Currently, the popular morning show is holding its “My Big Fat Today Wedding” contest, where it partnered with Universal Pictures in time for the release of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 to allow viewers to select one couple to get married on the show and help plan their wedding. (NBCUniversal is the parent company of both Universal Pictures and NBC, the network on which Today airs.)
So far, the audience has selected the couple--Kaitlin Roseman and John West--along with the dress and tux for the two, cake, cocktails and where the couple should spend their honeymoon, among other things.
In one particular episode aired in the run-up to the wedding, the show focused on allowing the audience to pick the couple’s rings and discussed current trends in bridal, bringing on Greenwich Jewelers’ Jennifer Gandia to talk about what she’s seeing in the market.
The trends covered were mixed metals, rose gold, colored stones, floral patterns, pave and vintage, as well as various styles for men, from ceramic to classic with a twist to a ring with black diamonds for those looking to make a statement.
“Using motifs, like a floral motif or vintage styling, all of these things are really big trends right now,” Gandia said on the show.
Today also displayed a few jewelry brands to show the trends--Todd Reed, Two by London and ArtCarved.
Styles for the couple included a rose gold eternity band for the bride and matching rose gold band for the groom; a vintage-inspired ring with rose-cut diamonds from Two by London and a black jade and sterling silver band; and a band featuring three rows of yellow diamonds for Roseman and a band with black diamonds for West.
The audience’s final selections in all categories involved in “My Big Fat Today Wedding”--including which rings they picked--are scheduled to be revealed Thursday, the day of the wedding.
