Plano, Texas--JC Penney will open its second store in Brooklyn next month.
The retailer announced Tuesday a new location at the borough’s Kings Plaza shopping center. Slated to open on Aug. 10, it is 75,000 square feet in size and has multiple levels.
In addition to featuring the latest JC Penney brands and concepts in a sleek and modern store environment, the Kings Plaza location also will have a full-service, 2000-square-foot Sephora inside.
It also will have a dedicated customer service desk to provide an omnichannel experience--offering in-store order pickup and the ability to process online returns and exchanges--and energy conservation features like LED lighting and a high-efficiency HVAC system throughout.
JC Penney opened its first Brooklyn store in 2014--105,000 square feet located at the Gateway Center--which Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Joe McFarland said has “consistently been one of (the retailer’s) top performers since it opened.”
He added that the debut of this second Brooklyn store shows their “commitment to growth in high-potential markets, reinforces (their) belief in the power of brick-and-mortar retail and speaks volumes about the vitality of this dynamic and bustling borough.”
The opening of the new stores comes amid a major redevelopment of Kings Plaza, which is currently Brooklyn’s largest shopping center. The transformation of the 1.1-million-square-foot mall includes new retailers and restaurants, and building enhancements like a redesigned entrance and new civic park.
