Lavalier Partners with Progressive on Jewelry Insurance

The new insurance policy combines Lavalier’s jewelry expertise with Progressive’s insurance know-how.

Lavalier and Progressive have partnered on a new plan called Progressive Jewelry Insurance by Lavalier.
New York—Lavalier has teamed up with insurance giant Progressive on a jewelry coverage plan.

Dubbed Progressive Jewelry Insurance by Lavalier, the plan will cater to those looking for standalone jewelry insurance or those who want extended jewelry coverage beyond their existing homeowners’ or renters' policy.

While homeowners’ or renters’ insurance may offer jewelry coverage, policyholders need to add a rider, or add-on, for the jewelry they want insured. Making a jewelry claim could affect the entire property insurance rate.

Through Lavalier and Progressive’s insurance, policyholders would get specialized “all risk” coverage, meaning the rate wouldn’t automatically increase once a claim is made.

The “all risk” policy covers the jewelry for loss, damage, theft, and disappearance, though there are some exclusions.

Newly purchased jewelry also will receive limited coverage if the owner already has a policy.

The policy does not cover intentional loss or damage, manufacturer defects, or rare situations like war and nuclear hazard.

If a piece is lost, policyholders can work with Lavalier’s network of jewelers or a jeweler of their choice to repair or replace an item.

The cost of a policy is about one to two percent of an item’s value, starting at $68 per year.

Lavalier may offer discounts if the policyholder has a home safe or a home alarm, if the jewelry is stored in a bank vault or safe deposit box, or if there is a gemstone grading report for the piece.

The maximum limit for a piece of jewelry is $50,000 while the maximum total limit on a policy is $150,000, though higher limits are available with company approval.

“We’re excited to be working with an experienced jewelry insurer like Lavalier,” said Drew Purcell, Progressive’s business development leader.

“For customers looking for specialized coverage beyond their homeowners’ or renters' policy, or even for customers just looking for a standalone jewelry insurance solution, Progressive Jewelry Insurance by Lavalier will provide customers flexible coverage options to meet their unique needs and peace of mind knowing that their items are protected against a wide range of risks specific to jewelry.”

Consumers can visit Progressive’s website to receive an instant online quote by entering their ZIP code, the value of an tem, and their choice of deductible.

Once paid online, the coverage is binding within minutes, said the company.

“It’s an honor to work with such a renowned insurance brand as Progressive,” said Lavalier Vice President Melissa Becker.

“Progressive seeks to be the destination of choice for insurance products, and the addition of our product enables Progressive customers to protect their jewelry with fully inclusive coverage from an insurer with decades of experience in insuring jewelry.”
