Transformable Jewelry Is at the Heart of De Beers’ New High Jewelry Collection
“Metamorphosis” was inspired by nature’s changes through the seasons.
Building off its previous high jewelry collection, the diamond jewelry company used mixed metals and colored diamonds to paint a colorful picture in new high jewelry range, “Metamorphosis.”
Diamonds and gold form their own color palette, with each of the nine pieces mixing yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as white, brown, and fancy color diamonds meant to mimic the shades of the four season.
An elaborate single ear cuff, paired with a simple diamond stud, is the most colorful piece of all, with its titanium drops in four bright shades.
The drops detach and can be worn as a charm bracelet.
Transformation is another theme to Metamorphosis, with four pieces offering multiple methods of wear.
A long, transformable necklace has four diamond strands—one representing each season, De Beers said—strung between two removable clasps. The necklace can be shortened and worn with one clasp for an entirely different style.
The same motifs of each strand are interpreted as a ring jacket that fits interchangeable rings. One is a 3.06-carat, D-color, flawless diamond solitaire from De Beers’ “Natural Works of Art” collection, and the other a pave-set diamond ring.
A diamond lariat necklace features an elaborate diamond clip with a pear-shaped yellow diamond, which can be detached and worn as a brooch.
Finally, a bracelet clasp transforms into an oversized cocktail ring.
In addition to mixing varying shades of stones and metals, there’s also a wide variety of goldsmithing techniques and diamond settings in the collection, including serti neige or “snow setting;” fil couteau, also known as knife-edge; and perlage, or gold beading.
These nine pieces have been dubbed the “Prelude” set; the rest of the Metamorphosis collection will come out in July.
De Beers Jewellers CEO Céline Assimon said the collection represents a “modern approach” to high jewelry.
“In ‘Metamorphosis by De Beers’ we have transformed the spontaneous beauty of nature into our most complex and innovative designs yet,” she said.
“Each design in our Prelude set showcases a masterclass of artisanal savoir-faire–we have honed in on the details, combining antique-inspired settings with contemporary techniques such as colored titanium. We have pushed the boundaries with the ear cuff, which has a mesmerizing sense of movement and volume.”
