The Original Miami Beach Antique Show Is Celebrating 60 Years
Next year’s milestone show will be full of educational programming and collaborations.
The show’s upcoming milestone event will feature pop-up education sessions, multiple on-site activations and collaborations with key partners, as well as showcasing jewelry, watches, handbags, art, furniture, and home décor from more than 600 dealers.
The show follows the South Beach Jazz Festival, which is taking place Jan. 4-7, and will run concurrently with Art Deco Weekend, slated for Jan. 12-14.
The Miami antique show also is partnering with Sotheby’s again this year.
At the show’s annual Appraisal Day on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., ticket holders may bring in one item for a complimentary verbal valuation by Sotheby’s experts.
New to the event’s annual educational offerings, architect Peter Pennoyer, whose firm does residential architecture, will host a talk with Tim Kelly, who has been with Peter Pennoyer Architects since 2005 and established the firm’s Miami office in 2010.
The two will give a presentation, “From City to Country: An Inside Look at Designing Houses Today,” followed by a Q&A, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, within the event’s new Modern and Contemporary Art Pavilion.
The discussion will include tips for incorporating antique and vintage home décor into a contemporary design motif.
Peter Pennoyer Architect’s book “City I Country” will be available for purchase.
Additional educational offerings are still being finalized and will be posted on the show website’s event page.
“For 60 years, the Original Miami Beach Antique Show has been a destination event for attendees on the hunt for unique, one-of-a-kind signed and unsigned pieces,” said Gannon Brousseau, executive vice president of the show’s parent company, Emerald.
“With over 600 renown dealers from across the globe who are passionate and knowledgeable storytellers, OMBAS is the perfect chance to discover items you can’t find anywhere else in the world, while also learning about the history and provenance of a piece or a genre from experts in their fields.”
The show is open to the public and the trade, with registration available online now.
